Volume for the 2013 retrospective dedicated to George Cukor

Language: English or French
Editor: Capricci

George Cukor was one of the major filmmakers of the Golden Age of Hollywood. He worked with most of the iconic actors of the time (Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, John Barrymore, Jane Fonda…) and has had a strong influence on contemporary directors such as Pedro Almodóvar or François Ozon. This book is aimed both at curious readers and the most demanding cinephiles thanks to rich but accessible contributions from international critics, filmmakers and film historians. The volume is abundantly illustrated and contains analyses of the films and biographical material. Cukor has been one of the first homosexual directors to make it in Hollywood. The story of his life offers a fascinating insight into the complex relationship between the studios, filmmakers and American society.
The book was published on the occasion of the George Cukor retrospective by the Festival del film Locarno in 2013, curated by Roberto Turigliatto.

Edited by Fernando Ganzo. With contributions from Jean François Buiré, Yola Le Caïnec, Rinaldo Censi, Carlo Chatrian, Jean Douchet, David Ehrenstein, Pierre Eugène, Chris Fujiwara, Bill Krohn, Stéfani de Loppinot, Gonzalo de Lucas, David Phelps, Mark Rappaport, Lorenzo Esposito, Pablo García Canga.
